AVINI CAM

 Let’s start by defining what a CAM is. As a holistic health professional I am well versed in what the American Medical Association (AMA) defines as a CAM. The AMA has long recognized that there are a category of Complementary and Alternative Medicines (CAM) that can, and should be recommended to patients to use in conjunction with what they define as accepted mainstream science-based, FDA approved medicine. 

CAMs as a category cover a wide range of products that breakdown into two varieties. First are those yet untested and second, those yet be accepted by the pharmaceutically based FDA. Yet many CAMs have scientific testing and research endorsed findings that other countries not only accept as effective but support, prescribe and are insurance covered within their mainstream healthcare systems.

 A CAM is essentially a non-pharmaceutical, non FDA endorsed treatment or medicine yet to be accepted within main-stream American Healthcare. This was the case with penicillin and even aspirin at its earliest development. But unlike the supplement industry, the second avenue of CAMs has legitimate scientific research and laboratory testing supporting its claims of effectiveness and application.

But like a few other products it is FDA challenged as it cannot provide one of the primary requirements of the FDA to become certified as a pharmaceutically FDA recognized main stream drug. There is no lethal dose.

“What?” You may wonder. Yes, one of the requirements of the FDA in testing within the Demonstrating Substantial Evidence of Effectiveness for Human Drug and Biological Products Guidance for Industry is to be able to demonstrate and establish a lethal dose, or what they call a mortality level of the drug. This way the FDA and the government can justify its regulation.

AVINI has no such saturation level. It is completely safe. So does a drug have to be lethal to be effective? Apparently the American government and FDA think so. However the AMA and the American Healthcare System is catching up with the rest of the world. This is where the broadly accepted term CAM has evolved. After all, a physician’s basic oath states they should first and foremost,  “Do no harm." So why bar patients from treatments that could help them and pose no threat of harm?
